Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (Georgia) will host a three-day international, annual,
multidisciplinary conference on American Studies. The conference commemorates the 250th
anniversary of the founding of the United States and will focus on the theme: “American
Democracy: Achievements and Problems”.
The conference is organized by the Institute of American Studies at TSU in cooperation with the
Georgian Association for American Studies.
The conference will take place on-site at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (1 Ilia
Chavchavadze Avenue, Tbilisi, Georgia) on May 28–30, 2026.
Call for Papers and Panels
Individual paper proposals as well as fully formed panel proposals are welcome on any topic
related to American Studies.
Individual paper proposals should not exceed 250 words and must include the paper title, the
speaker’s name, and academic affiliation (if applicable).
Panel proposals should include a 300-word abstract describing the panel as a whole; the title of
the panel; titles of each individual paper; names, academic affiliations, and email addresses of
all participants; and the name and affiliation of the panel chair.
In addition, panel proposals must include a 250-word abstract for each individual paper. Panels
may consist of no more than four speakers.

at elene.medzmariashvili@tsu.ge no later than April 29, 2026.
Accepted participants will be notified by May 4, 2026.

Time limits: Keynote speakers: 50 minutes
Panelists: 15 minutes
Discussion: 5 minutes
Equipment for PowerPoint presentations will be available upon request.
Conference registration is free of charge.
Publication
Conference participants will be required to submit revised manuscripts within three months after
the conclusion of the conference. All submissions must be in English and will undergo a double-
blind peer review process. Selected papers will be published in the Georgian Journal of
American Studies.
